BandM8 is a music creation tool that plays with you. You start with an idea—on guitar or keys, whether uploading your own music or using samples we provide — and it listens, responds, and builds a full band around your music. It follows your timing, your feel, your decisions, so your ideas don't get lost between inspiration and execution.
BandM8 works wherever you have an internet connection. It is browser-based and will work on your desktop, laptop, pad or phone.
No, this is not Text to Music. This is Music to Music. You must either upload your own music file, use a sample from the Library on our project page or record a guitar or keyboard creating a file in your project. Once you have the input music, then "Yes" text prompts are how you "engineer" and guide BandM8 by telling it what you want, and asking for recommendations or even general musical questions like 'What would the Beatles or the Weekend do?'.
These are controls that help you get exactly what you want out of each instrument. Simply, Density is how many notes you want the instrument to play per bar, the higher the number the busier. Polyphony is if you want single notes or a chord played - the lower the number the less notes are played simultaneously, and the higher the number the more.
The major reasons for a problem are that you are not playing with the click - metronome - on tempo (BPM). You have to play on beat. Another reason could be that you have to try to play with as clean a sound as possible so BandM8 can distinctly hear the notes. This can be a guitar issue if you're playing with distortion.
We do not provide vocals. If you are recording your input, you can record vocals at the same time, or if you have a recording that includes vocals you can upload them. In the future, we hope to have some vocal surprises.
BandM8 listens to your input and generates MIDI accompaniment that locks into your harmony, rhythm, and feel. It's not stitching together samples—it's creating parts that behave like musicians playing together, so everything stays flexible and editable.
Yes. We have a plugin that works inside of most DAWs like Logic and Ableton. Also, BandM8's browser-based platform generates MIDI tracks that export straight into your DAW. Also, BandM8 is integrated with AudioTool and you can move freely between the two platforms - see the AudioTool at the bottom of the BandM8 project page. You can move seamlessly from playing an idea to shaping it inside your production workflow.
Your ideas stay your ideas. As far as we are concerned, you can do whatever you want with your tracks. You should be mindful of other copyright claims if you are doing covers or standards and third-party restrictions and permissions should you publish.
No. BandM8 is a creativity tool. It is built to support musicians, not replace them. It's closer to a musical assistant or agent than a machine—something that helps you explore, develop, and finish ideas faster while you stay in control.
No, the BandM8 team did not rip or scrape artists' master recordings.
